Mr. Morrison lives and works out of Southern California.

Andrew Morrison’s art has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in galleries throughout the United States, including the Art, Design, & Architecture Museum in Santa Barbara, CA; American Indian Center’s Trickster Gallery in Chicago, IL; Washington State University’s administration building Gallery in Vancouver, WA; Western Washington University’s Viking Union Gallery in Bellingham, WA; Portland State University’s Native American Student Center in Portland, OR; Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center in Postfalls, ID;  Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center’s Sacred Circle Art Gallery in Seattle, WA; and Upper Playground’s Fifty24 Gallery in Seattle, WA.

Awards and Honors

Mr. Morrison is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the Award of Distinction recipient, administered by UCSB 2019; Continuing Graduate Fellowship recipient, administered by UCSB 2018; the Adeline Garcia Community Service Award, administered by Seattle Indian Health Board, 2015; Indian Heritage murals at Wilson Pacific designated as Official City of Seattle Landmark, a 2013 nomination to be considered for the inaugural James W. Ray Distinguished Artist Award, administered by Artist Trust / Frye Art Museum Consortium; Consultant for Jones and Jones Architects and Landscape Architects; Seattle Times 2013 front page article; 2013 Apache Moccasin front page article; 2013 Indian Country Today feature; DList Magazine 2010 “Young Seattle” feature; Best of Show at the 2013 and 2010 Painted Face North West American Indian Art Show; People’s Choice and Commissioner Choice at the 2006 Arts of the Terrace. He is the Edmonds Art Festival 1996 Junior Poster Winner. He received scholarships from the Rhode Island School of Design, School of Museum of Fine Arts, Maryland Institute College of Art, Art Academy of Cincinnati College for Creative Studies, San Carlos Apache Tribe, Edmonds Arts Festival Foundation, Arts Council of Snohomish County, and Edmonds School District Alumni Association.

Artist Statement

I pursue execution with Michelangelo as my model, pursue the immortal youthful spirit of Vincent Bell, pursue the historical accuracy of Bill Reid, pursue the bravery of George Flett, pursue the manhood of Cliff SiJohn, pursue the longevity of my grandfather, and pursue the compassion of my mother.

My art foundation is built on iron clad discipline and daily I pile effort upon effort knowing my commitment is rooted in honesty.  This honesty gives birth to the artistic momentum of a tsunami wave and the artistic faith of a monk which are continuously adapting to my process of progress. This process of progress is in accord with the Almighty Heavenly Father and I give all the credit to him. My art will stimulate thought, motivate action, continue to blossom in harmony within an infinite field of unfolding possibility, and continue to be a bright light shining into this dream of a world. This is my guarantee to you.

Mr. Morrison was born in Seattle, WA in 1981 into a traditional Haida carving family from Hydaburg, AK, and an Apache language speaking family from the San Carlos Apache Reservation in Bylas, AZ. He has studied Northwest Coastal artwork his entire life, and has studied Native American symbolism from such Native American Master artists as Terrance Guardipee and George Flett.

Formal Training

Mr. Morrison has been professionally trained at the Rhode Island School of Design and his course studies have included graphic design, two-dimensional design, three-dimensional design, art critique, color theory, conceptual development, classical European art, observational drawing, and he excelled tremendously in science-fiction fantasy illustration. He also has obtained formal training at the School of Museum of Fine Art in which his course studies have included film, black and white 35 millimeter photography, digital photography, Pre-Columbian Mesoamerican art, figure painting, landscape painting, exhibition curating, modern abstract, and contemporary modern art. He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Tufts University and also a Master of Fine Arts degree from University of California, Santa Barbara.
